 About us

We started our journey with battery hens, when we found a lone hen who had escaped from a local battery farm whilst they were catching hens for slaughter.  She had managed to get free and find us.  Our Maisy was a very happy addition to our family.  When Maisy passed on we looked to help other battery hens, realising what joy they can bring to our lives.  After contacting Hen Rehomers to get our own ex battery hens I ended up helping at the farm.

This is where Little Hen Rescue started. Little Hen's name came from a special hen we pulled from a top cage, no bigger than a pigeon and almost bald.  She was named 'Little Hen', sadly after weeks of care and love she died in the arms of my good friend Phil from Hen Rehomers.   This moved me so much I named my rescue after her.

I believe that not enough people realise that battery/barn/free-range hens can be saved, and hope that starting this small rescue and working alongside others we can make a big difference to some small lives.

YOU can make a difference!
Ensure you are not buying eggs/products made with eggs from caged or barn hens.
Encourage friends and family to buy free range eggs.
Check labeling.....Many products have 'hidden egg/egg white in them!

Vote with your purse! Consumer demand and supermarket pressure force farmers to lower their costs, which in turn means the hens pay the price.

Our rescue takes all types of poultry. If you know of any birds in need of help please contact us through our >> Contact us << page
