Help us on the yard preparing for hens arrival
We have just got a premises, we will need to adapt it so its suitable and safe for the hens. We are hoping to adapt the fields and donated sheds for the longer term residents to be free range until re homed. If you have the time to help us with any of these things it would be wonderful
Help us on the yard the weekend of hen rescue part 1
You will need to be competent with hens and handling, move to part 2 if you would like a different job on yard.
We will need people at scheduled times to be at the yard waiting for our arrival with crated hens, we will need help unloading, and getting the hens into stables and enclosures.
The hens will need their nails clipped and have a general check over. Any ill or injured will go into a separate stable which will be our special care area. Jumpers will be put on if needed.
Hens will need to be encouraged to drink.
Volunteers can also help catching and boxing the hens for our re-homers.
Help us on the yard the weekend of hen rescue part 2
You don't have to handle hens to be a volunteer, we will need people to greet the re homers and get them to fill in their adoption form, take their business card and advice sheet. Once all filled in, and they have paid their donation you should point them in the direction of hens and other volunteers. There will be people to help them choose their hens, and get them into carriers.
As people leave they will be given an advice sheet.
Hosing out of the crates and a clean up will also be necessary.
Egg collectors
We normally have some resident hens left over that will remain with us until they are well, and we often have hens reserved for some people. We will need people to collect up the eggs to stop them being smashed. People are welcome to take a dozen eggs for their troubles! This will not be needed until after a rescue.
Thank you for taking the time to read this..
